Guidance for Life’s Changing Needs
As part of a nationwide network of Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs), The Span Center provides support, connection and advocacy to residents of Planning Service Area 15 (PSA15) which includes Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Powhatan, and the City of Richmond.
We take great pride in being one of the 25 AAAs in Virginia and more than 650 across the country, all committed to serving older adults, caregivers and people with disabilities with compassion and intention.
Collaborating for the Greater Good
The Span Center receives vital funding from multiple parties including federal funding under the provisions of the Older Americans Act, state funding administered by the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, and support from city and county governments.
As a private nonprofit, we also rely on community contributions, including donations and volunteer service. We welcome partnerships that expand our ability to serve all people in Central Virginia.
Mission
To support older adults, individuals with disabilities and caregivers across Central Virginia by connecting them to services, community and resources that promote independence and well-being.
Vision
A compassionate and inclusive community where people of all ages and abilities are supported, valued and celebrated with dignity throughout every stage of life.
History
In 1973, The Span Center was founded as a 501(c)3 non-profit (originally named Senior Connections) offering information, services, resources and advocacy to support various stages of life and ability with a focus on older adults.
After 50 years, the organization underwent a brand refresh. Made with great care and strategic thought, this update reflects our commitment to serving individuals who span all ages, abilities and generations. As our organization evolves, we look to expand our offerings to broaden our reach and better meet the growing needs of our community.
Who We Are
Our Team

More than a service provider, we are a vibrant community hub that transforms perspectives, fosters connections and leads the way in normalizing aging as a shared journey that unites us all.
